Descripción del producto

The R38 coupling sleeve is a threaded connector for top hammer drilling systems. It joins drill rods, shank adapters, or drill bits together. It uses an R38 “rope thread” design. This thread has a shallow profile and large pitch, which makes it very easy to connect and disconnect by hand on the job site. It is perfect for light to medium-duty tasks like underground mining and bench drilling.

Material: 23CrNiMo Alloy Steel

RockHound uses 23CrNiMo alloy steel for all R38 coupling sleeves. This material is a high-grade structural steel specifically for rock drilling tools. It has a tensile strength between 750 and 900 MPa and a yield strength of at least 600 MPa.

The chemical mix includes chromium and nickel. Chromium helps the steel resist wear from rock dust. Nickel makes the tool tougher so it does not crack under heavy impact. 1 This balance of hardness and toughness helps your drill string last longer in hard rock conditions.

Features and Advantages

  • Precision CNC Machining: Every R38 thread is cut with CNC machines. This makes the connection tight and reduces energy loss during drilling.
  • Custom Branding: We support custom logo marking on the sleeve surface. The maximum logo size is 100*100mm.

Especificaciones técnicas

RockHound provide different sizes and types based on your drilling needs. Data is calibrated from industry standards and site measurements.

1. R38 Middle Stop Couplings (Equal Diameter)

These connect two R38 rods of the same size. The middle stop prevents the rods from over-threading.

2. Reduction and Adapter Couplings

These act as a bridge to connect different thread types or rod diameters.

Working Principle

The R38 coupling sleeve is a bridge for energy. In top hammer drilling, the hammer hits the shank adapter at the top of the hole. This creates a shock wave that travels through the drill string to the bit.

The coupling must keep the drill rods perfectly aligned and “butted” together. If the rod ends touch inside the sleeve, the energy wave passes through efficiently. If they don’t touch, the energy hits the threads instead. This causes the threads to get hot and break quickly.

Industrial Applications

  • Mining: Used for production drilling and roof bolting in underground mines.
  • Tunneling: Ideal for face drilling and creating blast holes in highway or rail tunnels.

  • Quarrying: Perfect for drilling small to medium holes in limestone or granite quarries.

  • Construction: Used in foundation work and slope stabilization projects.
Applications of R38 Coupling Sleeve

How to Select the Right Sleeve

Choosing the right type depends on your rock and your rig. Read our full guide on Manguito de acoplamiento para martillo en cabeza:Usos,Tipos y Elección.

  • Check Rock Hardness: Use a full-bridge sleeve for very hard rock like granite. For softer rock like limestone, a standard semi-bridge sleeve is usually enough.

  • Full-Bridge vs. Semi-Bridge: Full-bridge sleeves have threads all the way through. They stay tighter and are harder to jam. Semi-bridge sleeves have a space in the middle. They are easier to take apart and work well for most underground jobs.
  • Thread Matching: Always match the thread to your rod. If you use a T38 shank but R38 rods, you need a reduction coupling.

R38 Coupling Sleeve-How to choose

How to Maintain Coupling Sleeve

Good maintenance can make your tool last 30% longer.

  • Grease the Threads: Always use thread grease before connecting. This prevents the metal from sticking together and reduces heat.

  • Keep it Clean: After drilling, use a brush to clean out mud and rocks. Dirt acts like sandpaper and wears down the threads.

  • Check for Wear: Look for cracks or thin threads every shift. If the threads look sharp like a knife, replace the sleeve immediately.

  • Store Properly: Keep sleeves in a dry place. Use thread protectors to stop rust from forming.

PREGUNTAS FRECUENTES

Most failures happen because of "loose joints." If the rods are not tight, the impact energy destroys the threads. Lack of grease also causes the sleeve to overheat and crack.

Yes, R38 is a standard thread size. However, using the same brand for rods and sleeves usually gives you a better fit and longer life.

If your drill rig has high torque or you are drilling very deep holes in hard rock, choose full-bridge. It handles the extra stress better and prevents the rods from wandering inside.

This steel has nickel, which makes it much tougher. It doesn't become brittle after heat treatment. This means it can take millions of hits without breaking.
